Jawaharlal Nehru University was established in 1969 by an act of parliament. It was named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. G. Parthsarthi was the first vice-chancellor.
The objective of the founders was to make the university a premier institution of higher learning and to promote research and teaching leading to the increasing engagement of its students and teachers in higher level academic work and national and international policy making.

The University of Hyderabad, one of the major institutions of higher education in India, is largely devoted to postgraduate studies. Founded in 1974 with Prof. Gurbaksh Singh as its first Vice Chancellor, the university has emerged as a leading center of teaching and research. The university has 46 different departments and centers organized into ten schools of study and offers close to 150 different programs of study, ranging from Doctoral studies to Masters level degrees. Since 1998 the university has been running the Study in India Program (SIP) which, among other things, organizes the intensive summer course “Contemporary India” (7.5 ECTS) for graduate and post-graduate students from the Nordic member universities. Within the Study in India Program students from the Nordic countries can also participate in the Semester Program and take courses at the university for a full semester. The courses included in the Semester Program can be regular courses in the different schools at the university or courses that are especially designed for foreign students.

Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore

The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC) in Bangalore was established in 1972 by the late Professor V. K. R. V. Rao and is an All India Institute for Interdisciplinary Research and Training in the Social Sciences. The institute is registered as a Society under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act (1960) with the aim to create a blend of field-oriented empirical research and advances in social science theories, leading to better public policy formulation at the state, national and international level. ISEC has an equally important activity of Ph.D. programs and training activities for Central and State governments, as well as the corporate and non-governmental sector. Pondicherry University

A central University, established through an Act of Parliament in 1985, Pondicherry University is one of the younger universities in the country. The campus is spread over 780 acres of land with lush green tropical vegetation; and its entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled. It has emerged as one of India’s fastest expanding Central University crossing growth mark of 300% during the last few years and has about 5000 students now representing 33 states of the country and abroad, and over 450 faculty from across the country. It has a state of the art Library with remote access to over 31,000 digital information resources through a dedicated library portal. The University offers 157 Masters, Doctoral and Diploma programmes in 34 Departments, 10 Centres and two Chairs under the umbrella of 15 Schools. It has a Community College and Directorate of Distance Education offering Business Management programmes. The University launched its Study in India Program in the year 2000 in collaboration with the International Institute for Scientific and Academic Collaboration, Inc., (IISAC) U.S.A. Subsequently, the university has hosted several American and European university students as part of the semester programme under independent agreements with various universities.
NCI has an agreement with the Study India Program (SIP) at Pondicherry University that enables 15 Nordic students to study and spend a full semester in Pondicherry.

National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore

The National Law School of India University came into existence through a Notification under the National Law School of India University Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). It signified the culmination of efforts by the Judiciary, the Bar Council of India, the Karnataka Bar Council, the Bangalore University and the Government of Karnataka to reform legal education and to establish a centre of excellence for legal education and research in India. This Law School successfully caters to the requirements of the legal profession, law teaching and research, and judiciary in India and it is typical for the students who study in this School to eventually become legal practitioners, law teachers or engage in legal research or enter the judiciary in due course.
The Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the University. The Chairman, Bar Council of India, is the Chairman of the General Council. These connections lend a stature and prestige to the School which is unparalleled in the history of legal education in India.

American Institute of Indian Studies (AIIS), Delhi-NCR

The American Institute of Indian Studies is a cooperative, non-profit organization, whose members are American colleges and universities with a special interest in Indian studies. Established in 1961 and headqurtered at the University of Chicago, Amercian Institute of Asian Studies (AIIS) has offices and research centers in the United States and India, research centers at its campus in Gurgaon, and a centrally located office in Delhi with regional offices in Kolkata (Calcutta) and Pune. AIIS provides research fellowship support for scholars, Ph.D. candidates and artists; offers training in Indian languages where they are spoken and extends knowledge of Indian culture through its two research centers, the Center for Art & Archaeology and the Archives and Research Center for Ethnomusicology; and supports book publications and articles about India. The Institute has been directly responsible for fostering several generations of new scholars, and its senior fellows have returned to classrooms where they have taught tens of thousands of American college students.
NCI and AIIS entered into an MoU in 2014 to encourage students and researchers from NCI’s member universities to participate in AIIS’s language training programme. Students nominated by NCI can participate in AIIS’s intensive, immersion-based training in modern and classical South Asian languages at multiple sites in India.

Established in 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations, the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) serves as a regional Institute for training and research in Population Studies for the ESCAP region. IIPS has established itself as the premier Institute for training and research in Population Studies for developing countries in the Asia and Pacific region. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Besides teaching and research activities, IIPS also provides consultancy to the Government and Non-Government organizations and other academic institutions.
