JOB DESCRIPTION :

Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is seeking to recruit a research assistant to work in the project “Female sex hormone and menopause effects on cortico-reticular functioning (MENSA)”. The position is a fixed-term contract for the period of 1.8.2026-31.8.2027, with the prospect of expanding the role into a doctoral researcher position either during this term or upon its completion.

The project seeks to establish whether fluctuating concentrations of estrogen and/or progesterone influence central nervous system functioning and whether this, in turn, affects physical performance. The project includes three experiments in different cohorts where measurements are performed during times that endocrine hormone concentrations are high and are low. Data tracking physical performance and neuronal functioning at different phases of the eumenorrheic cycle has already been collected and requires further data analyses and manuscript write-up. Data tracking physical performance and neuronal functioning related to menopause is currently beginning. Data measuring males undergoing prostate cancer treatment and an experimental estradiol add-back therapy is planned and likely to begin in 2027
