The Swedish Research Council has opened its 2026 call for recruiting prominent international researchers currently working outside Europe.
Eligible Swedish universities and research organisations may apply for a grant of SEK 2 million to support the recruitment and 12-month full-time employment in Sweden of a named researcher.
The researcher must:
• have conducted research outside Europe for at least two years
• be at least five years beyond their PhD or equivalent
• have a strong international research profile
• not already be established in Sweden
The researcher is expected to strengthen the host department and contribute to Swedish research, with the longer-term ambition of establishing their research activities at the organisation.
For Swedish institutions working with India, the call may offer a valuable opportunity to identify and recruit outstanding researchers based at Indian institutions, while strengthening academic connections between the two countries.
Applications are submitted by the Swedish host organisation and reviewed on a rolling basis until 10 November 2026.
