Two students from @Department of Food and Resource Economics, University of Copenhagen (IFRO), University of Copenhagen (Københavns Universitet) recently completed two months of fieldwork in Sausar, Madhya Pradesh, as part of IFRO Project India.
Their journey began with a warm welcome and orientation at National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi, before they travelled onward to NIFT Patna and then to the field site in Madhya Pradesh. The engagement was facilitated by the Nordic Centre in India and supported through NEURAL’s work with Tiger Cotton.
The students’ fieldwork explored vegetation diversity, insect activity, farmers’ field management practices, economic and social indicators, and the local cotton value chain.
Alongside their academic work, the students experienced different facets of India — from NIFT Delhi and NIFT Patna to village fieldwork, local customs and traditions, Holi celebrations, and taking part in a wedding celebration.
For NCI, activities such as these reflect the value of Nordic–India academic collaboration: helping students engage directly with sustainability questions, agricultural systems, rural livelihoods, local knowledge and responsible value chains in India.
This kind of field-based learning also connects with the broader spirit of the India–Denmark Green Strategic Partnership, where education, research, business and people-to-people cooperation can support shared conversations on sustainability and the green transition.
